• TruePosition, a provider of wireless location technologies and solutions and a subsidiary of Liberty Media Corporation, announced that Dominic Li has joined the company as vice president of Marketing and Portfolio Management. In this role, Li will be responsible for the development and execution of the company’s portfolio and marketing strategies> and management of the corporate brand. Most recently, Li was responsible for managing the portfolio development and marketing functions at Sprint Enterprise Mobility, a mobility-focused consulting and systems integration subsidiary of Sprint. Prior to joining Sprint, Li was vice president at British Telecom, managing portfolio development, marketing and channel development functions in the United States.

As part of its Virgin Mobile Festival, the company is offering a promotion that lets fans select the line-up for the event. Along with Kyocera Wireless and MySpace, Virgin Mobile USA has launched its “Book the Band By Virgin Mobile” campaign, an opportunity for five emerging bands to vie for a slot in the Virgin Mobile Festival lineup.    The bands participating in "Book the Band By Virgin Mobile" are: Automatic Loveletter, from Tampa, Fla.; Hollywood Undead from Los Angeles; The Parlor Mob from Red Bank, N.J.; The Virgins from New York; and We Are Scientists from Brooklyn, N.Y. Fans can check out the videos at www.virginmobilefestival.com as well as stream original MP3s, read bios, buy tickets and vote for their favorite band. Voting will take place through July 21 and the winning band, based on audience voting, will be announced July 24 and then appear at Virgin Mobile Festival on Aug. 10. Fans can also vote via text message by sending the band’s short code name to #73976 on any wireless carrier.

• Telsima announced that Neotel, South Africa’s first converged network operator, has chosen the Telsima WiMAX technology> for its network deployment. Neotel will contract Telsima’s regional partner, Tellumat, to provide the equipment and associated turnkey services and support for the deployment of Neotel’s WiMAX network. 

• Comverse announced that Taiwan Mobile has deployed a replacement MMSC from Comverse to upgrade and consolidate its multimedia messaging (MMS) service in Taiwan. Taiwan Mobile recently consolidated its three portfolio operators: Taiwan Cellular Corporation, TransAsia Telecommunications and Mobitai Communications, each of which had its own MMS solution from a different vendor, including one from Comverse. In order to enhance the MMS service offering throughout the network and benefit from operational efficiencies and service advantages, TWM replaced the 3-MMSC paradigm with one Comverse MMS solution.

• doubleTwist Corporation unveiled the full release of its application, doubleTwist desktop version 1.0. The latest release incorporates a number of new features, including video sync, the ability to preview media received from friends through a browser and enhanced sync support for select devices from Motorola, RIM, Apple, Microsoft, Sandisk and LG.
