• SkyCross, a global wireless company providing antenna-centric RF solutions, announced that it is providing antennas for three Samsung handsets: the BlackJack II, Juke and SGH-F700. The BlackJack II is carried by AT&T; the Juke is a music phone for Verizon Wireless; and the F700 is a new, award-winning addition to the Ultra portfolio offered by Vodafone.
• NXP Semiconductors, an independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, announced that it has been selected by Samsung as one of the handset maker's 3G solutions suppliers. NXP will provide the Nexperia Cellular System Solution 7210 to Samsung for a new generation UMTS/EDGE handset.
• Airspan Networks and Fujitsu announced they have signed a 4-year cooperation agreement to jointly build a Mobile WiMAX Base Station designed for carriers in the 2.5 and 2.3 GHz bands. The new compact and high power base station, which Airspan calls "MacroMAXe," is designed to minimize a WiMAX carrier's capital outlay and ongoing operational costs. The base station can deliver two to three times the capacity of similar products by using a highly featured implementation of the WiMAX radio interface. MacroMAXe promises to enable carriers to operate with both today's and future versions of the Mobile WiMAX air interface, providing protection for their investment in Mobile WiMAX Infrastructure.
• Comfone, a worldwide GSM and WLAN roaming provider, has announced its support for single-standard WiMAX technology by joining the WiMAX Forum, an industry-led non-profit organization committed to promoting and certifying interoperable WiMAX products.
• Ad Infuse, a mobile advertising provider, announced a new mobile advertising unit designed specifically for the Apple iPhone. The new solution promises to enable brands to uniquely reach the millions of iPhone subscribers in the United States and Europe, bringing together video and browsing formats for the first time. The company introduced the new product to meet the growing demand from top brands and premium publishers for a more visual, rich multi-media experience that can leverage the unique mobile Web capabilities of the iPhone.
• Nokia Siemens Networks and Siemens IT Solutions and Services announced they have signed a global service agreement set to run for four years plus an option for another two years. With this contract, Siemens IT Solutions and Services becomes the leading vendor for IT infrastructure services for Nokia Siemens Networks.
• Telekom Slovenije, Slovenia's leading telecom operator, has selected Subex Ltd. to implement the Nikira V6.1 Fraud Management System. The solution will help safeguard the company from a range of potential risks, including subscription fraud and network fraud.
• Mobile TV chipmaker Siano Mobile Silicon has launched its SMS8022, second-generation antenna-chip product for high-performing mobile applications. The SMS8022 enables increased MDTV reception in deep indoor locations and when traveling at high speeds. The miniature omnidirectional antenna chip eliminates the need for long telescopic or rod external antennas to enable mobile digital TV on applications such as mobile phones, portable multimedia players, notebooks, UMPCs, and accessory cards. Covering the entire UHF spectrum, from 470 MHz to 870 MHz, the SMS8022 supports digital TV technologies such as DVB-T, DVB-H, ISDB-T, FLO and ATSC. The SMS8022 is a joint development of Siano and U.S.-based Vishay LLC.
• Pozitron recently won the Global Business Plan Contest sponsored by the Harvard Business School's Entrepreneurship Club. The contest brought together a panel of judges from the venture capital and technology sectors including IDG Ventures Boston, HarbourVest and Thomas Financial. Pozitron's business plan, which focused on its Integrated Mobile Banking (IMB) product, was chosen among a dozen of companies to represent Turkey. It then competed against several top firms representing Armenia, Colombia, Germany, Lithuania, and Mexico at the Global Business Plan Contest and secured first place after two rounds of deliberations.
• Motorola plans to incorporate and distribute Bridgewater Systems' AAA service controller as a key component in its WiMAX infrastructure solutions. Under the terms of this agreement, Motorola will have non-exclusive global distribution rights for Bridgewater products; Motorola customers will receive first and second line support services, customer training as well as installation and integration services.
• Spotigo has developed a positioning application based on its Wi-Fi-based positioning solution "WiPS" for the GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. This tool enables visitors to see their current position on a fairground's map and to find their way at the venue. Any Wi-Fi device or Wi-Fi-tagged item can be located just by the received Wi-Fi signal patterns. • Ceragon Networks and RAD Data Communications have introduced a joint solution that leverages Ceragon's high-capacity microwave and RAD's optimized mobile transport platform. The joint solution combines RAD's ACE multiservice access concentrator and ETX Ethernet intelligent demarcation device and Ceragon's FibeAir IP-MAX2 to offer high-capacity wireless transport native in both Ethernet and TDM and traffic classification tools, including pseudowires, for delivering optimized TDM and ATM over packet- and circuit-switched networks. The solution also enables higher network resources utilization through service multiplexing, Class of Service (CoS) based classification and traffic scheduling. The solution helps operators reduce the Total Cost of Migration (TCM) of mobile backhaul networks to IP through enhanced network utilization and lower equipment costs.
