• SurfKitchen has launched SurfKit Phonetop, an integrated suite of on-device applications designed for operators to improve mobile data service delivery and consumption. Phonetop's suite of applications delivers choice for customers, zero click discovery and a range of sophisticated new analysis tools for service lifecycle management. Among SurfKitchen's customers are Orange Group, Telstra, Telefonica Moviles España, Maxis, ALJAWAL (Saudi Telecom) and Etisalat.
• Phoenix Contact has introduced a wireless Ethernet radio – the RAD-80211-XD-BUS – with modular I/O and firmware capabilities. Up to 64 digital, analog and pulse I/O can be interfaced directly to the radio. The I/O modules can be addressed via Modbus TCP or legacy serial Modbus RTU over the 802.11 network. This allows a standard solution for facilities undergoing incremental upgrades. Multiple wireless communications streams allow simultaneous Ethernet, I/O control and serial ASCII device communications – all from a single radio without external gateways or additional serial wireless converters.
• Mobile media company SendMe Mobile has selected the Vantrix Store Optimizer mobile content delivery solution to streamline the publishing of video, ringtones, wallpapers and other mobile media on SendMe Mobile's storefronts.
• NetMotion Wireless, a provider of mobile productivity and management software, has announced a number of new executives appointments. Joe Savarese, formerly chief technical officer, will now assume the role of senior vice president and general manager for the company's flagship product Mobility XE. Tom Johnston, formerly senior vice president of products and marketing, will now assume the role of senior vice president and general manager for an emerging business unit. Andy Willett, senior vice president of sales and business development, will also assume responsibility for Worldwide Marketing. Along with the new appointments, NetMotion has announced that based on record 2007 results, the company plans to expand its workforce by 20% in 2008.
• Vocal Laboratories has announced the results of its 17th quarterly SectorPulse study on the quality of customer service among the largest wireless phone companies. During Q4 2007, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile tied for the top honors in caller satisfaction and call completion, a measure of how many callers were able to get what they needed in a single call. AT&T scored a B for both benchmarks. Although the survey sample this quarter was insufficient to issue Sprint Nextel formal letter grades, its benchmark scores were in the "C" range for both caller satisfaction and call completion.
• Digital Receiver Technology has announced the availability of the DRT4301-LTE Test Receiver. The test receiver is a software-defined radio-based test receiver that provides measurement and monitoring of network quality.
• Nortel has announced a GSM-R contract with China's Ministry of Railways (MOR). Under the terms of the deal, Nortel will provide new communications capabilities between trains and ground staff along the 510 km high-speed passenger line between Zhengzhou and Xian.
