Motorola: Revenue Up, Profit Down

Motorola reported a 17 percent increase in revenue during the third quarter. Shares slipped, however, following news that the handset maker reported a 45 percent drop in profit.

Freedom Finalizes bcgi Settlement

LAS VEGAS-Atheros Communications "jump-started" its wireless LAN configuration solution at CES in Las Vegas. The JumpStart 2.0 is compatible with the new Wi-Fi Protected Setup program. The new specification developed by members of the Wi-Fi Alliance simplifies the process of setting up and protecting home or small office wireless networks from unauthorized access.

Dell is making sure it has its wireless bases covered. The latest: the computer company inked a deal to integrate Cingular Wireless' UMTS/HSDPA capabilities into its laptops next year. Earlier this week, Dell made a similar commitment to Verizon Wireless' 1X EV-DO technology.

Yahoo! Makes Mobile Search Push

Yahoo! is moving full-speed ahead in the mobile space by offering what it calls a new approach to mobile search with the launch of Yahoo! oneSearch. In conjunction with the oneSearch announcement, Yahoo! took the wraps off of a beta version of its Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0. The new products take aim at rival Google, which has been making a push of its own in the wireless sector.

Treo 750 Arrives in the U.S.

Palm is ready to bring its Treo 750 smartphone to the United States. The device was expected to make its market debut earlier, but delays prevented delivery. The device is hitting the States via Cingular Wireless.
