Radio communications provider Harris Corp. said Tuesday that it has won a $14 million contract from the state of Vermont to provide communications tools to first responders working in the state, as well as across the border in Canada.
Harris' P25 system combines voice and data services, and meets Vermont's requirements for regional and cross-border communications. Because it works with infrastructure in Vermont, Canada, and neighboring states, and doesn't require that many new towers be built, Harris said its system is a cost-effective method of expanding first responders' radio coverage.
The company's shares rose 58 cents to $45.95 in afternoon trading.
