If you haven’t seen the “Alice” app for the iPad, you should (you can read an excellent article penned by the developer here). The developer, Atomic Antelope, has taken a 145-year-old book, brought it to life, and made it appealing to an entirely new generation of readers without making it not a book. This app screams “Try doing this on your Kindle.”
If this is the kind of innovation we see on iPad after two weeks of availability, I can’t wait to see what’s in the app store six months from now.
One final note: this is a book that you have to buy in the iTunes App Store, not the iBook store. It may be too early to say that ePub is the de facto standard for eBooks, when non-ePub apps are this good.
