Samsung and Google today announced that they have cancelled the planned "Samsung Mobile Unpacked: The Google Episode" event at the upcoming CTIA Enterprise & Applications show (Oct. 11-13) in San Diego.

The event, which was scheduled for Oct. 12, was expected to include an unveiling of Google's next Nexus device. That device was hinted in a video teaser for the event and is expected to be the first smartphone running Ice Cream Sandwich, the next iteration of Google's Android platform.

The two companies released a joint statement about the cancellation. "Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced," the statement read.

Ice Cream Sandwich, which promises to merge existing Gingerbread and Honeycomb Android iterations into one OS, would create a universal platform to support both tablets and smartphones.

On Tuesday, Samsung released a teaser video for the event that all but announced the new device will come running the new Android platform. The video shows a device with a curved form factor (possibly rumored Nexus Prime?) along with the tagline, "In everyday life, some things just go better together." The video features images of cookies and milk, possibly inferring the main ingredients in an ice cream sandwich.

Samsung's Unpacked events have become a mainstay at CTIA conferences. Last spring, at the CTIA Wireless show in Orlando, Fla., the company unveiled the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 models.
