While we're looking at mobile ad trends, why not turn our attention to mobile video services?  Independent mobile video service Vuclip unveiled its monthly Global Video Insights Report, which shows the still nascent mobile video ad industry is, of course, growing.

Drum roll, please ... Rihanna tops Vuclip's list of top U.S. mobile video searches for July 2011, followed by Harry Potter, Justin Bieber (who's he?), Britney Spears, Beyonce, Selena Gomez (any connection to Bieber?), Shakira, Naruto, Lady Gaga and Anna Kournikova.

Now for some perspective, the top July 2010 searches were: Kim Kardashian, Lada Gaga, Michael Jackson, Shakira, Justin Bieber, Family Guy, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Drake and Lindsay Lohan.

The top five U.S. mobile videos viewed in July 2011 include some disturbing images (with the exception of the break-dancing gorilla):

  1. Gas Station Worker Strangled in Gas Hose by Car Drive Off
  2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 Trailer 2
  3. Two-Headed Snake at Odds with Self
  4. Troubled Diva Amy Winehouse Dead at 27
  5. Break Dancing Gorilla at the Zoo

And, because we know who pays the light bill, here's Vuclip's top viewed mobile video advertisement in the U.S. in July: "Ape with AK-47," which was part of a viral marketing push for – you guessed it – "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."
