AT&T is offering its prepaid GoPhone customers a new $50 plan that includes unlimited voice minutes, SMS and Internet access.
The plan, available beginning June 26, also comes with all-you-can-eat text and instant messaging to more than 100 countries, including Mexico and Canada.
Only GoPhone customers using feature phones are eligible for the unlimited plan. AT&T prepaid customers with smartphones can get unlimited talk and text for $50 but must pay extra for mobile data.
"As summer approaches, consumers want a plan that provides even more value as they connect with their loved ones in the U.S. and abroad," said Judy Cavalieri, vice president of AT&T's prepaid division, in a statement.
AT&T's new $50 prepaid plan is cheaper than two of its current offerings, a $75 plan with 200 MB of data and unlimited voice and SMS, and a $60 plan with unlimited voice and text which charges additional fees for mobile data.
Prepaid customers comprise a small percent of AT&T's subscriber base and are not the company's main focus, but the carrier does have some pay-as-you-go offerings. The company is launching the Pantech P7040p quick messaging phone at the same time as its new unlimited plans and came out with its first prepaid Android smartphone, the LG Thrive, in April.
