U.S. Cellular yesterday announced its first prepaid smartphones, the LG Optimus U and LG Apex, which will sell for $199 and $249.99, respectively. Both phones are available today.

Customers can choose from two prepaid data options. For $60, customers will get unlimited messaging, 2GB of data and 450 voice minutes or for $70 they can get 2GB of data with unlimited voice minutes and messaging.

Both the Optimus U and Apex are powered by Google's Android operating system. The Optimus U comes running Android 2.2 (Froyo) and the Apex comes running Android 2.1 (Eclaire).

The LG Optimus U sports a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, virtual qwerty keyboard with Swype technology, 2GB microSD card (expandable up to 32GB memory), 3.2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

The LG Apex features a 3.2-inch touchscreen, 3-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and MicroSD support up to 32GB.
