Mobile media company Azuki Systems has moved into the network equipment space with the launch of its first appliance.
Until now, Azuki’s distribution platform for DRM-protected content was software-as-a-service and the company’s new 5110 appliance is its first hardware offering. The turnkey box distributes live, on-demand, short-form and long-form DRM-protected video, and other over-the-top content.
Instead of targeting carriers for the new equipment, Azuki is going after content providers and businesses with the new hardware, which is tailored to their needs.
The 5510 boasts a variety of end-to-end features including content ingestion and preparation, adaptive bitrate streaming, DRM management, ad insertion, session shifting from landline to mobile networks on any device and support for app and Web development.
Fred Sammartino, president of marketing with Azuki Systems, says these features aren’t superfluous. “Without them, it’s really a piecemeal solution which isn’t really what you need to speed deployment of OTT content,” he says. “We really think there’s a big hole in the industry today that there aren’t any turnkey solutions for OTT.”
Azuki’s technology powers mobile media from several top media outlets and telecommunications companies, including CBS, FOX News Corporation, Sony Music, Sony Pictures, Sports Illustrated, Time Warner and Sprint.
