Symantec today announced Symantec Next Generation Network Protection, a network-based policy control and enforcement solution, which allows communication service providers to apply user preferences in a consistent fashion on a variety of services.
The new solution is aimed at lowering churn by reducing costs associated with network misuse, malware proliferation and spam. This solution allows Symantec to seamlessly secure information from the individual to the device to the enterprise to the network and back again.
According to a press release, the new solution creates a unified system for policy enforcement to shape the customer experience and provide additional revenue opportunities. Consumer or enterprise subscribers define the policy or controls for content, data usage and time of day context while the operator manages and enforces the controls across all services.
"We want to give communication service providers confidence that they are securing their customers' information and implementing customer preferences. Symantec Next Generation Network Protection provides that confidence," said Doug Havas, vice president of communications industries, Symantec, in a statement.
Havas said that as smarpthone use grows and in turn the amount of data being produced by a customer, "it's vital to protect the information while allowing for corporate, consumer and parental controls that enhance users' mobile experiences."
Symantec Next Generation Network Protection is scheduled to be available in Winter 2010.
