• Mobile healthcare company CardioNet has appointed Joseph Capper as president and CEO, effective immediately. He succeeds Randy Thurman, who remains chairman of the board of directors. Capper was previously president, CEO and member of the board of Home Diagnostics, a developer, manufacturer and marketer of diabetes management products.
• Qualcomm has announced speakers for its Uplinq 2010 Conference. They will include Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs; David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets; and John Stratton, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Verizon Wireless. The Uplinq conference is scheduled to take place at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, June 30 - July 1.
• Mobile search engine Taptu is opening a U.S. office in Denver to drive business development, marketing and product management locally, a move prompted by Taptu's growing American audience. Former Yahoo Mobile European executive Mitch Lazar, who joined the Taptu Board as non-executive in March, will head up the new office as he steps into the role of president and COO at Taptu.
• Airwide Solutions, a provider of mobile messaging technology, says Cricket Communications is using Airwide to upgrade its tiered messaging architecture. The upgrade includes a capacity expansion of AirMessenger Router infrastructure and the implementation of AirGuard AntiSpam in collaboration with Cloudmark, an Airwide Solution Partner.
• Testing company Spirent Communications says China Telecom has selected its C2K-ATS automated device system to test EV-DO Revision B (Rev. B) mobile devices. The EV-DO Rev. B deployment marks the next phase of China Telecom's 3G services rollout.
• Inmarsat has launched it new satellite phone, the IsatPhone Pro. The device is targeted at professional users in the government, media, oil and gas, mining and construction sectors and has a batter life of up to 8 hours talk time and up to 100 hours on standby. The handset has secured an IP54 rating and is dust, splash and shock resistant. It is also capable of operating from -20 degrees C to +55 degrees C, which is the widest temperature range of any satellite phone. The device is now available at a suggested retail price of $699, with promotional prices expected to be around $500-$600.
• Envivio says Taiwan-based systems integrator N-Type is deploying a multi-channel Envivio Mobile TV Headend for Chunghwa Telecom (CHT). The all-IP Envivio mobile television head-end features the 4Caster C4 Three Screens encoder/transcoder and will deliver both 3GPP and HTTP live streaming services. It replaces CHT's existing software-based infrastructure, allowing CHT to support Android-based smartphones and the Apple iPhone.
