Developers Get Facial Recognition API from Face.com

Facial recognition technology just got a lot easier for developers to include in their applications. Face.com, a company that specializes in facial recognition, today opened its platform APIs.

The company claims to have scanned "billions" of photos and tagged more than 50 million users through Photo Tagger and Photo Finder. It's part of Face.com's goal of making face recognition approachable and available to all.

For the Alpha stage of the initiative, developers will be allowed to use the company's face detection and face recognition technology through simple REST API calls.

David Sifry, founder of Technorati, got an early look at Face.com's API. "I've been impressed with Face.com's API, and their plan for working closely with developers to build great applications that incorporate face detection and face recognition. Open platforms like this one will enable the creation of exciting new applications that we've never seen before at scale," he said.
