A heavy-duty Dodge Ram 1500 was not the most likely place to watch television – until now. Chrysler has decided to offer FLO TV's mobile television service in eight of is 2010 model-year vehicles, including the Chrysler Town & Country, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Grand Caravan and Ram 1500.

"We are the first automaker in the United States to offer live, mobile TV in more than 100 metropolitan markets," said Pietro Gorlier, president and CEO of Chrysler's parts and service arm, Mopar. "Live, mobile TV gives our customers the ultimate in entertainment and it's a great example of how Mopar adds value to our Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram brands."

The service costs $629 plus installation and includes a one-year subscription and three-year/36,000-mile warranty for new vehicles and a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty on used vehicles.

The move builds on FLO TV's efforts to get into the in-car entertainment space. The company inked a deal with Audiovox last fall to embed mobile television capabilities into its automotive video system. The Audiovox distribution network covers more than 12,000 new car dealers in 85 markets nationwide.

The tech industry may have had its attention focused on gadgets this week due to the annual hullaballoo at the 2012 International CES show in Las Vegas, but at least a few people were thinking about the patented inventions that make those electronics work.
