• In-Stat research projects the market for 3G cellular modems in 2010 will be worth more than $3.5 billion. The external 3G cellular modem segment is larger than the embedded modem segment in 2010, but embedded modems are on a path to surpass external 3G modems.
• TomTom announced several enhancements to its TomTom app for iPhone, including real-time traffic compatibility and local search powered by Google. The latest version of the TomTom app (Version 1.3) can be purchased on the App Store today.
• A new phone has landed on the Nextel network. The Motorola i890 is priced at $129.99 with a two-year agreement on a new line activation or eligible upgrade and $50 mail-in rebate.
• Sprint says it has signed MVNO deals with Long Distance Consolidated Billing Company, NPG Cable, Call One and Baja Broadband.
• ZoomSafer announced the launch of the commercial version of its smartphone software for Windows Mobile devices. The software eliminates the temptation to text, e-mail or browse the Web while driving.
• MasterCard Worldwide says the MasterCard ATM Hunter application is now available for BlackBerry smartphones. The app lets BlackBerry smartphone users locate the nearest ATM. ATM Hunter is available for free download on BlackBerry App World.
• AirWalk Communications has collaborated with Mindspeed Technologies and Aricent to develop an LTE picocell. The three companies say a proof of concept will be on display in AriWalk's booth next week at the CTIA Wireless 2010 conference in Las Vegas. AirWalk will begin offering an LTE product line starting with picocells in 2011, followed by femtocells.
