HTC HD2 Launches March 24 on T-Mo

HTC and T-Mobile at a press event last night in New York City finally nailed down a release date for the HTC HD2. A T-Mobile spokesman confirmed that the new smartphone, which runs WinMo 6.5, will go on sale exclusively at T-Mobile and sell for $199 with a two-year contract.

The HD2 has mustered some anticipation from consumers and tech geeks. The touchscreen device will come preloaded with Barnes & Noble eReader, BlockBuster rent and watch service, MobiTV and in-flight Internet capabilities. However, the recent Microsoft MIX10 event, which  spent a lot of time showcasing the coming Windows Phone 7 series operating system, may have squelched a good deal of hype around an HTC smartphone with a lower level operating system.

Additional specs for the HD2 include a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm, Wi-Fi, GPS, 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, Bluetooth 2.1 and up to 32 GB of expandable SD memory.

T-Mobile also announced that the Motorola CLIQ XT with MOTOBLUR is available starting today at T-Mobile retail locations and online. The Motorola CLIQ XT is the latest Android device for T-Mobile. The phone is available from T-Mobile for $129.99 with a two-year contract.

The tech industry may have had its attention focused on gadgets this week due to the annual hullaballoo at the 2012 International CES show in Las Vegas, but at least a few people were thinking about the patented inventions that make those electronics work.
