Camiant let on that it won a contract to provide policy control systems for a major LTE deployment in 2010. It did not identify the service provider.
Camiant has more than 30 customers, including both fixed and mobile carriers. Previously announced customers include Sprint, Cox and Comcast.
There is nothing to suggest that any of those is the unnamed customer, but of the three, only Cox is likely; Cox is building its own network and recently announced experiments providing video over LTE. Comcast has nothing to do with LTE, and Sprint is relying on WiMAX instead.
The company said that in preparation for serving the LTE market, its Multimedia Policy Engine (MPE) is now generally available on the latest RadiSys ATCA (Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture) platform for next-generation mobile providers. Camiant last May began offering systems that are compliant with 3GPP Releases 8 and 9.
At the same time, Camiant reported that since the beginning of 2009, its sales have increased 75 percent. Operators are rolling out more and more IP-based services, which is increasing their demand for service management systems, including policy control. Camiant said the acceleration of this trend has translated into a growth spurt.
The company said that has propelled it to a new milestone: Its customers are using its policy control technology to cover more than 185 million subscribers.
The company said its policy control products are supporting a range of applications, including tiered Internet services, fair use management of congested networks, quality of service (QoS) for voice and video over IP, and EU roaming controls.
Camiant's MPE enables operators to roll out a wide range of Internet-based services, with high levels of per-subscriber customizations, and the ability to control usage, charging and quality of service on a per-application basis. The real-time control platform balances the needs of the application and the subscriber's entitlements, along with the network conditions to proactively manage network congestion, the company said.
