Verizon says the Motorola Droid and HTC Imagio can be used as television remote controls with its FiOS TV HD set-top boxes. The devices' mobile remote function work like the standard FiOS remote and have additional features including the instant transfer of photos from the handset to the television screen. Verizon says it will expand its FiOS Mobile Remote service to additional handsets in the coming months.

KDDI America has acquired a 51 percent stake in prepaid specialist Locus Telecommunictions. The companies plan to leverage their individual expertise to expand into the prepaid market. No changes in Locus' management team or operations is anticipated in an effort to ensure the stability of Locus' current operations and existing business relationships

• Telecommunication services company Arbinet Corp. says two of its board members have resigned. William Freeman and Jill Thoerlehave submitted their resignations from the Company's Board of Directors, effective February 11, 2010 and February 12, 2010, respectively. The company does not plan to replace them and approved a reduction in the size of its Board from nine members to seven members.  Freeman resigned due to personal circumstances and Thoerle resigned to focus her time and energies in her role as CEO of Mediaport Entertainment. Arbinet said neither resignation was the result of any disagreement with the company.

• Mobile advertising company iVdopia has launched a software development kit for video ads on Google's Android operating system. , iVdopia is now introducing social features, sponsorship and "instant-play" video to Android mobile ads. iVdopia is also inviting the open-Android community to propose and suggest their own creative video ad formats for incorporation into the next release of the iVdopia platform.

• European mobile entertainment company Aspiro is changing its management structure. It's Chief Financial Officer Jostein Viks&oslash;y  is leaving for a position at another company. Aspiro's management team will now consist of CEO, CFO, and heads of business areas Mobile TV, Music and Mobile Solutions. Accordingly, the heads of the Mobile Entertainment and Mobile Search units leaves the management team, but continues in their respective roles in the company.

The Wireless Innovation Forum is recommending a three-category approach in the evolution of the Software Communications Architecture (SCA) and related standards. The recommendation is modeled on a proposal made by the European Defense Agency's (EDA) during  the Forum's annual technical conference and product exposition in December. The Forum recommends there be areas of open standards with unlimited public access; areas of limited distribution standards for sensitive multi-national needs; and areas of highly restricted access for specific national and sovereign interests.
