Alvarion says it will unveil more than 20 end-user WiMAX devices at next week's Mobile World Congress exhibition in Barcelona, Spain.
The devices will include embedded WiMAX laptops, netbooks, a variety of USB dongles, mobile Internet devices, ultra-mobile personal computers and personal hot spots.
Alvarion is showcasing the devices as part of its OPEN WiMAX device strategy, which the company launched to help build out the WiMAX ecosystem. The company also tests third-party devices through its partner interoperability testing (IOT) program.
The devices will be connected to WiMAX base stations and will demonstrate what Alvarion termed "innovative applications." Alvarion made no specific mention of a WiMAX handset for demonstration.
Separately, Motorola announced the creation of a new docking station, or cradle, for its WiMAX USB dongle. The company says the docking station "significantly improves" the dongle's indoor performance.
Motorola's USBw 200 WiMAX dongle was introduced in late 2009. Its new docking station, available for 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands, is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2010.
