Appcelerator: Devs Like Apple Tablet

Appcelerator, a company that provides a platform for developers to build native mobile and desktop applications, says the tablet revolution will be big, and it will begin with Apple.

According to a survey of 554 of the company's 18,000 developers, a full 90 percent are "very interested" in developing an Apple tablet app within the year.

Appcelerator says its developers come from a "uniquely broad background," with balanced representation from iPhone and Android developers on the mobile side and PC, Mac and Linux developers on the desktop side. Thus the company concludes that 90 percent interest in developing applications for a new platform indicates overwhelming support across a broad spectrum of developer backgrounds and interests.

Apple Tablet Apps

As far as prioritizing the platforms that developers were very interested in working with in the near future, the Apple tablet came in at an impressive third after iPhone and Android, respectively. When asked about developer interest in the Apple Tablet as compared with other mobile operating systems, 58 percent of developers were "very interested" in developing for the platform.

Devices are increasingly dependent on the amount of development surrounding their chosen platform. Any indication that developers are "very interested" in the Apple tablet could mean very good things for sales. Combined with the likelihood that Apple's tablet will allow users to download apps from its existing catalog on iTunes, the Apple tablet looks as though it will suffer no shortage of available content.

  • PlayScreen plans to support the soon to be announced Apple Tablet.

In addition to many of our existing 20 apps for the iPhone, we will be creating apps specifically for the tablet.

We are currently completing 'Crickler.' Crickler is a word puzzle that is currently run on many Newspaper websites around the world (Times of London, Washington Post etc.). Every day a new puzzle is generated to match that day’s news.

    See PlayScreen.com for more information.
