• Verizon Business and Motorola have unveiled a wireless security service to help safeguard retailers' wireless networks from hackers. The offering consists of a range of solutions employing Motorola AirDefense wireless security products, which are specifically designed to protect 802.11 wireless local area networks (LANs) against threats and unauthorized devices. The offering also helps retailers comply with PCI (Payment Card Industry) Data Security Standard requirements, monitor performance and troubleshoot problems.
• Kineto Wireless has announced its new Smart Wi-Fi Offload, which turns existing Wi-Fi access points into extensions of a mobile operator network. The solution is intended to free up capacity on operators networks.
• Samsung Electronics has announced two high-density memory solutions for mobile devices. The new storage solutions – a 64GB moviNAND memory device and a 32GB microSD memory card – provide compact high-density memory for devices. The memory solutions are based on Samsung's advanced 32GB NAND flash.
• PCTEL has acquired Sparco Technologies, which specializes in selling value-added WLAN products and services to the enterprise, education, hospitality and healthcare markets. PCTEL, a propagation and optimization company, will pay $2.4 million for the company and will integrate Sparco into its Antenna Products Group (APG).
• Mobile advertising company Nexage has appointed Jon Phenix as vice president of sales and marketing. Phenix will oversee publisher sales and marketing efforts for Nexage. He previously worked at game media company gamerDNA. Previous to gamerDNA, he was head of Eastern U.S. Sales at Nokia Interactive after Nokia acquired Enpocket.
• Openwave Systems announced a joint collaboration with Digital Solutions Group (DSG), an African outsource provider for total fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) solutions and relationship marketing. The agreement is for DSG to distribute Openwave products while providing value-added professional services to operators in Africa and sub-Saharan markets. The solutions will consist of Openwave's context-aware mobile Internet mediation and mobile analytics offerings, with advanced professional services from DSG.
