• Siano has landed $23.5 million in Series D funding. The latest funding round consists exclusively of all of Siano's existing investors: JVP, DFJ-Tamir-Fishman, Star Ventures, Walden Israel, and Bessemer Venture Partners. The money will go toward meeting accelerating demand for its lineup of mobile TV receiver chips.
• ABI Research reports that 4G service revenue will hit $70 billion worldwide in 2014 as operators begin offering suites of so-called "smart services" that will be provided over smart networks enabled with all-IP technologies, IMS infrastructure and cloud-based storage. These 4G services will be optimized to enable a proliferation of mobile devices, such as smartphones, netbooks and personal navigation devices, and many operators will be offering pooled device subscriptions: one user subscription, many activated devices.
• Telenor Norway has deployed the latest verion of Vantrix' Message Optimizer. The deployment was secured by Acision as part of Vantrix's participation in the Acision Innovation Network. The Message Optimizer features transcoding, optimization and analysis technology for MMS.
• Motorola has launched the Brute i680, which meets Military Specification 810F for harsh conditions. The Brute i680 features a push-to-talk capability, a 2-megapixel camera with flash, large internal and external display, GPS, large battery for extended talk time, music features and stereo Bluetooth. The device is available through Sprint Nextel for $120.
• Bytemobile has promoted vice president of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Ian Sandman to the position of both vice president and general manager of EMEA. In his new position, Sandman will be responsible for all of the company's sales activities and customer relationships in EMEA.
• Mocapay has appointed Will White as its chief information officer. In this position, White will support the growing demand for Mocapay's mobile Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) technology.
• Bitstream announced that KC Mobile, a Korean-based manufacturer and leading provider of handsets for the Chinese cell phone market, will preload the BOLT mobile browser as the default Web browser in handsets to be distributed around the world. KC Mobile handsets are distributed in China, Europe, Russia, South America and Asia.
• Polaris Wireless says it has integrated Wi-Fi capabilities in its Polaris Wireless Location Signatures (Polaris WLS) technology enhancing its Hybrid solution. The Polaris Hybrid solution supports the Open Mobile Alliance's (OMA's) secure user plane standards (SUPL) as well as control plane standards.
