If you want to hear directly from Microsoft about the next version of Windows Mobile, you'll likely have to wait until Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona Feb. 15-18.

While the company's earnings conference call yesterday was short on anything related to mobile, executives did say they continue to make progress in the mobile space and will talk more about Windows Mobile 7 at MWC.

Microsoft introduced Win Mo 6.5 last fall as an interim step. CNET sources say that Microsoft is planning to finalize the code for Win Mo 7 by this summer to have it available for shipping on devices before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the company reported record revenue and profits for the second fiscal quarter, driven largely by strong consumer demand for Windows 7 and PCs, but the company has not seen a return to spending in the enterprise.
