Sprint has dropped the prices for its mobile WiMAX service to $59.99, a $10 drop from its earlier plans. The 3G/4G plans come with unlimited data on Sprint's 4G network and a 5Gb data cap for the use of its 3G network. Subscribers are allocated 300Mb for off-network roaming.

The reduced pricing came with the launch of Sprint's dual-mode mobile hot spot, the Overdrive. Sprint did not issue an official statement on the cost cut and could not be reached by press time.

The operator owns a majority stake in mobile WiMAX company Clearwire, which is working to build out its 4G network to cover 120 million people by year-end 2010.

  • Did comcast ever start enforcing their 250GB/month limit, or did they drop that start down the path towards tiered service in favor of active bandwidth choking (via port blocking) like the satellite services use?

  • Unlimited data when on the Clearwire network, whose coverage map makes ATT's look like a (thick) blanket.
If there's no obvious way to tell which network you're actually on, you could easily use up your 5GB in a day, then be paying Sprint's $500/GB (50 cents/MB) penalty the rest of the month.
    Ouch!

  • Because Clear only offers 4G network, as opposed to Sprint's plan featuring dual model 3/4G.

  • why would anyone buy this from Sprint when you can get it from Clear who is running the network for only $50?
