• LG has created a marketing campaign for James Cameron's "Avatar" adventure film. The campaign, developed in conjunction with Twentieth Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment, includes a TV spot that features the "Avatar" movie trailer footage being projected from LG eXpo, a smartphone handset that features a detachable mobile projector. LG also developed an interactive micro site, www.lgexpo.com, which includes exclusive movie content, and is also launching an exclusive joint-sponsored Facebook page between FOX and MTV.
• Infosys Technologies has launched an application platform for mobile carriers that provides a host of ready-to-use experiential applications across multiple devices. The Flypp platform is based on a plug-and-play model that can be integrated into an operator's current technology environment and can also plug and play with existing on-deck applications, according to the company. The platform also includes an Application Toolbox to test and certify the satisfactory operation of applications on service provider environments.
• MyRatePlan.com has launched a new prepaid and no-contract version of its interactive CellCalc software. The new tool focuses on no-contract and prepaid segments of the cell phone market. The no-contract version of CellCalc combines a features filter with a bill calculator, which work together to identify the rate plans best meeting the consumer's needs at the lowest monthly cost. Results are presented in a matrix format, sorted by plan types.
• Bridgewater Systems announced that MetroPCS Communications has selected its LTE product suite, including the Bridgewater Home Subscriber Server and Policy Controller, both anchored by Bridgewater's Subscriber Data Broker, for its LTE network.
• Nuance Communications says Samsung extended its contract with Nuance to ship T9 and XT9 predictive text input products across Samsung's global handset portfolio. Nuance's T9 and XT9 are predictive text technologies that support more than 80 languages. The technology is interoperable with Samsung's various operating systems as well as Android, Windows Mobile and Symbian.
• Motorola's Enterprise Mobility segment has added the PMP 320 wireless broadband to its point-to-multipoint wireless broadband portfolio. The PMP 320 is designed for fixed WiMAX networks in the 3.3 - 3.8 GHz licensed frequency bands. It features all-outdoor integrated radios and standards-based servers, so it does not require specialized gateways, routers or servers.
• A Dell'Oro Group report shows the worldwide wireless LAN market grew to more than $1 billion in the third quarter of this year, due in large part to the increased spending in the healthcare and education sectors, as well as a rise in sales of higher valued 802.11n products.
