Tellabs has completed its acquisition of mobile packet core company WiChorus. The acquisition builds out Tellabs' 4G portfolio with a range of mobile IP products for applications including GGSN, LTE and WiMAX.  

Samsung Electronics and ubitus report that they will launch the Pocket Media application in Brazil later this month. Pocket Media's mobile content technology allows users to share from PCs and handsets by addressing media codecs/formats' barriers. The technology, currently preloaded on the Samsung Omnia ll, optimizes live content to networks and devices. After its Brazilian debut, Pocket Media will also be available in other Samsung mobile phones in various regions.

Greenpacket has expanded its WiMAX modem portfolio with two new models that support 2.3 GHz, 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz frequencies. Greenpacket's line-up includes the DX WiMAX Indoor VoIP modem and the WiMAX USB High Gain Modem, which supports both fixed and nomadic WiMAX.

TerreStar, Elektrobit and Flextronics have agreed on manufacturing services for TerreStar's satellite-terrestrial smartphone, the Genus. The Windows Mobile 6.5 device combines 3G terrestrial wireless capability with satellite voice and data services. The touchscreen handset can be used throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and offshore coastal waters.

VirnetX has declared to the 3GPP that it holds 23 patents and 28 applications essential to LTE and other 4G wireless specifications. The declared patents specifically pertain to 4G security standards. VirnetX believes it will hold the majority of 4G essential patents related to Series 33 specifications that define security standards for LTE/4G. It wants to license the patents for use in 4G products such as chips and smartphones.

Ansca Mobile has received $1 million in venture capital funding from Merus Capital, a venture capital fund founded by former executives from Google and Microsoft. Ansca, the creator of iPhone app service Corona, says it will use the money to build out its application development platform.
