T-Mobile USA unveiled two new price plans, the "Even More" and "Even More Plus" plans, but they're not as aggressively priced as some onlookers had expected.

Both of the new plans include free nationwide T-Mobile-to-T-Mobile calling and free nights and weekends. The Even More plan involves a two-year contract and unlimited plans from $59.99. The Even More Plus plan involves no annual contract, with an unlimited voice-only plan for $49.99. For $79.99 a month, customers can get unlimited talking, texting and Web access.

T-Mobile, long known as the discount price leader among the four national carriers, had been expected to announce a $50 monthly unlimited voice and data plan, but that didn't happen.

In a third-quarter conference call with analysts yesterday, Verizon Communications executives more or less dismissed the new T-Mobile plans, saying they looked to be on the conservative side of rumors and Verizon didn't see a need to respond. As for a CDMA version of the iPhone coming from Apple, Verizon Communications Chairman and CEO Ivan Seidenberg said that's in Apple's court.

  • Yeah, not really aggressively priced at all... In fact, the current plan I'm on is still better value for money. I pay only $45 on Straight Talk for unlimited everything. That's 35 bucks cheaper than T-Mo's unlimited everything.
Heck, ST is even better than Boost IMHO. Except for the $5 cheaper price, it also runs off the Verizon network which is generally accepted as being far superior.

  • Boost Mobile agrees that the “Even More Plus” no contract plan is not as aggressively priced as expected. It costs consumers at least $360 more annually for the same services they receive standard with Boost Mobile’s $50 Monthly Unlimited plan, which includes unlimited talk, text and Web. Monthly Unlimited customers can also take advantage of true nationwide coverage which reaches more than 274 million people in over 17,500 cities throughout the U.S. on the dependable Nextel National Network. On top of all this, Boost Mobile will not nickel and dime its customers with extra fees or telecom taxes.

I was about as impressed with attempts to integrate mobile with this year's Super Bowl as I was with the Green Bay Packers’ effort during their NFC divisional playoff loss to the New York Giants.

The tech industry may have had its attention focused on gadgets this week due to the annual hullaballoo at the 2012 International CES show in Las Vegas, but at least a few people were thinking about the patented inventions that make those electronics work.
