VoIP provider Vonage announced that Apple approved its mobile application for iPhone and iPod touch. Vonage is currently conducting a beta test and general availability will be announced at a later date.
The announcement comes as Apple has been embroiled in controversy surrounding its approval process for mobile application submissions to the company's wildly popular App Store.
Most recently, the FCC launched an inquiry into the apparent "rejection" of a Google Voice app for the iPhone and iPod touch. Apple responded by saying that the Google Voice app had in fact not been rejected, but rather was being reviewed over concerns that the app replicated certain native functions of the iPhone.
Vonage becomes one of many VoIP providers, including Skype and Trufone, that currently offer apps at Apple's App store. VoIP services are currently relegated by AT&T to run solely over a Wi-Fi connection and not over the carrier's cellular network.
