Kineto Wireless has created a mobile VoIP application specifically designed to be resold through an operators' app store.

The application runs on operators' existing voice network infrastructure and is compatible with several mobile operating systems, including iPhone, Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile.

Kineto is currently offering a limited number of mobile VoIP subscription trials to qualified mobile operators.

Kinetor's mobile VoIP app can be rebranded and positioned as an alternative to third-party mobile VoIP applications. Operators have been reluctant to allow applications like Skype, Google Voice and Truphone to run on their networks because they offer competitively priced calls, especially for international service.

A recent report from In-Stat found that mobile VoIP is being increasingly adopted by subscribers for both domestic and international calls. The research firm predicts calls placed over a Wi-Fi connection will generate global sales of $32.2 billion by 2013 with over 278 million registered users.

"Applications such as Skype and Vonage have influenced users to think of voice as a data application," said In-Stat analyst Frank Dickson in a report. "The increasing penetration of Wi-Fi in mobile devices was the beach head that mobile VoIP applications needed."

  • At what rate per mega byte from an overseas carrier would VoIP call be less. If the international roaming cost for data was $10 per meg would a standard call be cheaper or at what rate per meg would it be less to call using VoIP. We sell prepaid int'l roaming data on global SIM cards from InTouch Smartcards but find only a few people asking or understanding about the costs for VoIP. A VoIP minute is on average how many kilo bytes? Can anyone help on this math? Jeff
