Networks In Motion (NIM) just underwent a major transformation. That is, if you consider going from five countries to 38 as a “major” move.
Previously, NIM’s navigation platform was available in the United States, Canada, Sweden, Italy and the United Kingdom. Now added to that list are places like Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Latvia, Spain and more. It supports 10 different languages: English (U.S. and U.K.), Spanish (Spain and Mexico), French (France and Canada), Italian, German, Swedish and Brazilian Portuguese.
NIM says with its tools, deciding where to go for dinner and navigating to it is as easy in Italy as it is at home. “Consumers can feel at home while traveling the world with NIM’s expanded map coverage and language support,” said Doug Antone, president and CEO of NIM, in a press release.
It’s all part of an effort to increase the availability of its navigation platform through carrier and OEM relationships, as well as via Gokivo, the company’s smartphone application available in the Apple and BlackBerry app stores, according to the company.
The new capabilities in its NAVBuilder global reference platform will provide its partners with the ability to create their own branded navigation applications. Besides the core turn-by-turn navigation service, expansive local search options and traffic indicators are part of the platform.
Underlying mapping data is provided through Navteq and TeleAtlas.
