CHICAGO—Clearwire was the big winner in last night's Best of 4G World awards, taking home two of the total five awards presented during the convention.

The awards are intended to honor companies that have excelled in development for and deployment of next-generation networks.

Judged by a panel that consisted mainly of Yankee Group analysts, the awards are open to all, whether or not they are a part of the 4G World conference. Eliot Weinman, conference founder and co-chair and president of the events division of Yankee Group, was present to hand out the awards.

"The innovation and effort that have been demonstrated by all finalists and nominees reflect the leadership that continues to drive opportunity and benefits throughout the emerging 4G industry," Weinman said

Best 4G enabling technology innovation award went to Dragonwave for its Horizon Packet Microwave Solution. Best WiMAX Deployment went to Clearwire for Clear 4G Service.

Bridgewater Systems took home the Best Mobile Internet Application for its myPolicy Solution. Samsung took Best Mobile Internet Device for the Samsung Mondi. And Clearwire made a second trip to the podium for Best Backhaul Deployment.

4G World kicked off on Tuesday and ends tomorrow. Yankee Group's official tallies report more than 7,000 pre-registered attendees and 117 exhibitors.

The conference formerly known as WiMAX World and has since changed its name to 4G World in an effort to include more technologies in the 4G ecosystem.
