• Samsung Mobile and U.S. Cellular announced the availability of the Samsung Gloss (SCH-u440), a flip phone with a qwerty keyboard.
• Two months after a public debut at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Bitstream announced that BOLT, the company's Web browser for mobile phones, has more active users in India than in any other country outside North America. One in six of BOLT's active users reside in India, where users have visited more than 4 million Web pages and consumed more than 1 terabyte (1,000 gigabytes) of bandwidth using the mobile browser since it debuted in February, the company says.
• Ericsson and operator TeliaSonera have signed an agreement introducing a new mobile advertising solution in Sweden that allows companies to offer ads tailored to fit consumers' personal needs and interests. Personal Pod Advertising is currently being implemented and will be launched commercially during 2009.
• Research In Motion (RIM) announced an enhanced BlackBerry Technical Support Services offering with new levels of support and support service options for small to medium-sized businesses and large enterprise customers.
• Dilithium announced that STC in the Middle East has selected Dilithium to provide mobile video solutions to STC's customer base.
• Technicopia announced the availability of gwabbit for BlackBerry smartphones on BlackBerry App World and online at www.gwabbit.com. gwabbit automatically searches and identifies contacts embedded in e-mails on a BlackBerry smartphone and adds or updates that information to the BlackBerry Contacts in a single click. It sells for $9.99 annually.
• Palm and Iusacell say Treo Pro is now available in Mexico on Iusacell’s mobile broadband network.
• Gomez introduced a solution that can automatically test how mobile Web sites render on various smartphones, including the iPhone and Google Android, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile 6.1 and 5 devices. The service is part of Gomez's One Web performance testing and monitoring capabilities that help developers and IT operations teams find, diagnose and fix application performance issues whether they are mobile-specific, Web-specific or both.
• Gemalto completed the acquisition of O3SIS, a German provider of carrier grade personal data management solutions to mobile network operators. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
• ABD3 announced the availability of YellowPin for the MySpace community. The service is accessible through any cell phone via text message and allows users to stay informed about their friends while on the go. It was introduced earlier this year on Facebook.
• Comverse Technology has named Stephen M. Swad as executive vice president and CFO, replacing Joseph Chinnici. Swad previously was CFO at Fannie Mae and before that, AOL.
