• Sony Ericsson announced a partnership with Zeemote to launch a console-style mobile gaming experience in the United Kingdom. The Sony Ericsson W705 will be exclusively available on T-Mobile, bundled with a Zeemote JS1 Bluetooth Mobile Gaming Controller and preloaded with the Fast & Furious Zeemote Ready game. The controller features a thumbstick and four action buttons to provide users with an immersive mobile gaming experience. Fast & Furious is published by I-Play.
• Sling Media announced the availability of a Wi-Fi-only version of its SlingPlayer Mobile application for Apple iPhone and iPod touch at the iPhone App Store. When in a Wi-Fi enabled area connected to a Slingbox SOLO, PRO or PRO-HD, the SlingPlayer Mobile software allows users to watch and control their living room television on the iPhone or iPod touch. The app is priced at $29.99.
• Syniverse Technologies has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of Wireless Solutions International (WSI), a Boca Raton, Fla.-based provider of global managed roaming and wireless network solutions. Syniverse expects the transaction to close by the end of May.
• Sybase iAnywhere says Afaria, its mobile device management and security solution, now supports Open Mobile Alliance Device Management (OMA DM) standards for device management.
• CalAmp announced that its 882-EVDO ruggedized cellular data modem and IP router has been certified for operation on the Sprint Nextel network.
• Telematics service provider WebTech Wireless reported revenue of $6.7 million for the three-month fiscal quarter ended March 31, representing a 10 percent increase over revenue reported for the comparable quarter last year. The company earned net income of $115,000 and generated $2.5 million in cash from operations during the quarter.
