It looks like the economy isn’t affecting consumers’ desire to purchase mobile games, at least not if you look at EA Mobile’s most recent quarterly results.
EA Mobile recorded $48 million in fiscal 2009 revenue, up 14 percent year over year. The company launched 10 mobile titles in the fourth quarter and announced five new iPhone titles in the past couple of weeks.
Electronic Arts as a whole posted a smaller net loss for the fourth fiscal quarter as it continues to cut costs and eliminate jobs.
Earlier this week, PopCap Games, publisher of Bejeweled, announced results of a survey showing 57 percent of AT&T wireless customers play games on their wireless devices. The survey was conducted by Information Solutions Group among more than 1,100 AT&T wireless customers.
Survey respondents said mobile gaming serves as a distraction and stress relief. Fifty percent of AT&T mobile gamers in the poll said they play mobile games during work hours, while one in seven gamers said they most often play games on their phone during work when they need a short break.
Tetris and Bejeweled were the most popular among survey takers, with Solitaire being a close third.
