Amazon Launches Blog Publishing Service

Posted In: Devices | Kindle

Amazon yesterday launched Kindle Publishing for Blogs, a beta program that will allow bloggers to publish their blogs to the Kindle Store. The new service takes advantage of the device’s limited browser, and allows Kindle users to subscribe to blogs of their choosing.

Help pages for the new service state that bloggers will get paid 30 percent of the monthly blog subscription price for every subscriber to their blog. Amazon will charge anywhere from 99 cents to $1.99 for a subscription or, as the company states in its help pages, on what Amazon deems is a fair value for customers.

In keeping with Amazon’s “fair value” policy, bloggers are not allowed to offer their blogs for free.

Amazon said that in most cases, blogs will be published within 12 to 48 hours, including the 30 minutes it typically takes to complete the set-up process.

The new Kindle Publishing for Blogs service comes on the heels of Amazon’s unveiling of the large format Kindle-DX, which is targeted at the e-textbook and perodicals segments.

The Kindle-2 sells for $359 and the DX for $489.

In Other News: Patents

The tech industry may have had its attention focused on gadgets this week due to the annual hullaballoo at the 2012 International CES show in Las Vegas, but at least a few people were thinking about the patented inventions that make those electronics work.
