SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The planned entry of AT&T into the South Dakota cell phone market – and other rural areas – will bring access to the popular iPhone made by Apple.

AT&T plans to buy Alltel assets in South Dakota from Verizon Wireless, which was forced to sell the service areas to satisfy regulatory conditions of its purchase of Alltel.

It means Alltel customers will move to AT&T, but Verizon users won't notice a change.

Some people are excited to finally get their hands on the popular iPhone, but others worry that the limited number of AT&T towers will make for spotty coverage.

AT&T won't say how many South Dakota customers it will acquire, but it did say the company will do business statewide.

Regulators still have to approve the deal, which could happen later this year.

Why aren’t more people complaining about the absurdity of AT&T passing off its 3 to 5 Mbps HSPA+ network as "4G," when LTE can and does hit 12, even 16 Mbps regularly?
