Companies continued to report their quarterly results this week. Following is a round-up of some of the good and not-so-good results.

· In Amazon.com’s first-quarter results, CEO Jeff Bezos said Kindle sales have exceeded the company’s most optimistic expectations, but the company did not release sales figures for the Sprint-powered device. The Kindle Store now offers 270,000 books.

· Microsoft said its quarterly revenue fell from the previous year for the first time in its 23-year history as a public company. Regarding its moves in wireless, the company stated that handsets will be running Windows Mobile 6.5 by next quarter. The software giant is gearing up for the launch of the Windows Marketplace in a bid to get a firmer foothold in the wireless industry.

· Starent Networks reported first-quarter net revenues of $73.2 million, an increase of 30 percent from the first quarter of 2008. Net income for the first quarter of 2009 was $12.8 million compared to net income of $9.7 million for the first quarter of 2008. In February, Starent was named a packet core vendor for Verizon Wireless’ LTE network.

· Chinese manufacturer ZTE reported a 35 percent increase in revenues in the first quarter compared with a year ago; quarterly net profit also grew. Earlier this week, Huawei Technologies reported net income grew 20 percent in 2008.
