• Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by China Unicom to deploy 3G W-CDMA networks in 14 Chinese provinces.
• SmartReply is acquiring mobile-ad firm mSnap, The Wall Street Journal reports. mSnap's shareholders, which include Partech International and First Round Capital, will get a minority stake in SmartReply.
• The once booming personal navigation device market is grinding to a halt in 2009, with little or no growth expected in most regions, says ABI Research. With the European PND market forecast to decline and the North American market remaining flat, Asia-Pacific remains the only growth market.
• The Partnership for a Drug-Free America announced the launch of its first mobile public service campaign in collaboration with Ringleader Digital and Contagious.
• Airborne Mobile announced the renewal of its agreement with FOX Mobile Entertainment to develop and distribute mobile content based on the FOX series Family Guy, as well as a new agreement to develop and distribute content based on FOX's American Dad and King of the Hill.
• Sybase iAnywhere announced the latest version of iAnywhere Mobile Office for Windows Mobile, Symbian and iPhone users in the enterprise. Sybase also announced expanded iPhone support and availability on the iPhone App Store.
• Aicent says that Smart Communications in the Philippines has selected mBridge to enhance MMS delivery for its more than 35.2 million subscribers. Smart is using both Aicent’s MMS Gateway service along with the enhanced mBridge Virtual Delivery.
• Syniverse Technologies says it has signed 45 new customers in North America since January 2008. Syniverse has added to its customer roster mobile operators as well as new entrants into the mobile space, including cable operators and Internet, VoIP and applications service providers. Syniverse provides messaging, roaming, clearing and fraud prevention solutions.
• ADC announced that its InterReach Fusion in-building cellular system has been deployed at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Boston. The system currently provides augmented coverage for T-Mobile customers, although it can also support traffic from additional mobile operators who choose to use it.
• Antenova, an integrated antenna and RF solutions company, announced that Sony Ericsson has licensed its High Dielectric Antenna (HDA) technology for use in its series of high performance multi-band handsets. Antenova says its multi-band HAD antennas offer GSM, UMTS, EGSM and CDMA capability in the same antenna with minimum space requirement.
• Companies are maintaining or increasing their level of mobility support, according to a new report from managed services provider Movero Technology and research firm Aberdeen Group. The firms say that high-profile companies were increasing year-over-year mobility spending as a percentage of total IT spend by 27.4 percent.
• Exalt Communications announced its new licensed Gigabit Ethernet microwave radio platform featuring a semi-protected "1.5+0" protection configuration, an alternative to traditional 1+1 fully redundant protection deployment.
