Apple plans to preview a new version of its software for the iPhone next week, amid speculation that the company is also preparing to launch a new model of the cell phone later this year, The Wall Street Journal reports.

• MVNO Consumer Cellular, AARP’s exclusive wireless provider, says it now offers data service plans for new and existing customers. With its new Wireless Web feature, Consumer Cellular customers can send picture messages, check news from their phones, as well as download ringtones, wallpaper images, screen savers and games.

Brightpoint Italy entered into an agreement with LG Electronics Italia to distribute LG mobile phones and related accessories in the Italian wireless market. As part of the agreement, Brightpoint will distribute a range of LG mobile phones and accessories through its commercial customer channels.

Airspan Networks says the government of La Xunta, Spain, through its service provider R, has selected Airspan equipment to create two networks, one used for the municipality to remotely connect offices throughout the region, while the second is connecting several industrial zones and businesses to WiMAX.

NextWave Wireless announced that it has filed a form with the SEC related to a delay in filing its annual report. The company says it will file its Form 10-K on or prior to March 27.
