Alltel Wireless appears to be living up to its promise to remain competitive in the 105 markets where it still operates. The carrier announced that customers can now add wireless Internet as a secondary line of service on a Smart Choice Pack for $40 a month, for a reduction of $20.
Typically $60 a month, the new option will save new and existing customers almost $250 a year, Alltel says. The service delivers wireless access to a laptop, personal computer or smartphone.
Alltel’s Smart Choice Packs provide national voice minutes, an unlimited data plan and features such as “My Circle” for one monthly price. Packages for first-line subscribers start at $69.99 per month, including five My Circle numbers, 500 anytime calling minutes, unlimited nights and weekends and more. For heavy users, Alltel offers the Smart Choice Pack 5500, providing 20 My Circle numbers, 5,500 anytime minutes, unlimited texting and a variety of additional features.
Alltel offers both the BlackBerry Pearl and Curve. The Pearl is now being offered for free at Alltel’s Web site after online discounts and a mail-in rebate, plus a 2-year contract.
Last week, Alltel announced it was already offering the Palm Treo Pro – more than a week before it goes on sale with Sprint on March 15.
In January, Verizon Wireless closed its acquisition Alltel properties, acquiring 12.9 million customers, leaving about 2.1 million customers in markets to be divested.
