NII Holdings, Inc. announced that Nextel Argentina, Nextel Brazil, Nextel Mexico and Nextel Peru will offer the BlackBerry Curve 8350i smartphone.

The BlackBerry Curve 8350i is the first BlackBerry smartphone in Latin America to offer Nextel's Push-to-Talk (PTT) service along with premium phone features, email and messaging capabilities, web access, productivity applications and rich multimedia capabilities. The phone also includes Wi-Fi and 128MB of internal memory.

The BlackBerry Curve 8350i smartphone and Nextel's Push-to-Talk service will provide one-touch communication between NII subscribers and over 10 million iDEN subscribers in North and South America.

Function-rich smartphones are not new to Latin America. In June of 2008, America Movil signed a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone 3G to Latin American countries. The 3G is now available in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Central America, Chile, Colombia and the Dominican Republic.
