BlackBerry Storm Hits 1 Million Mark

Posted In: Browsers

It might have opened with lukewarm reviews, but the BlackBerry Storm still has managed to find its way into consumers’ hands. Verizon Wireless confirmed the company has sold 1 million BlackBerry Storms since the Nov. 21 launch of the device.

That’s quicker than the first iPhone, which took 74 days to sell a million handsets, but pales in comparison to the iPhone 3G, which sold 1 million in just three days.

AT&T added 2.1 million net new customers to its wireless service in the fourth quarter, including 1.9 million iPhone 3G accounts. The iPhone 3G accounts surprised some analysts who had braced for the worst after Apple recently reported a 36% decline in iPhone shipments.

The iPhone helped drive up revenue for Web browsing and video download 51% compared with a year earlier.

The tech industry may have had its attention focused on gadgets this week due to the annual hullaballoo at the 2012 International CES show in Las Vegas, but at least a few people were thinking about the patented inventions that make those electronics work.
