MobiTV Reaches 5M Subscribers

Mobile television service MobiTV said today that its subscribership is now more than 5 million people.

The service is available for to customers of AT&T, Sprint Nextel and Alltel. More than 1 million subscribers signed up in the past five months, officials said.

MobiTV recently began expanding into vertical markets with the Mobi4Biz service, while other vertical services for children and sports fans are likely in the first half of 2009. The company is also upgrading its video technology.

The service began in 1999. Investors include Adobe Systems, Heart Corporation and various venture capital firms.
