At this week’s Research In Motion (RIM) BlackBerry developer’s conference, Zeemote announced the forthcoming availability of its BlackBerry SDK, so game developers can make Zeemote-ready games to work on devices like the Pearl and Curve.
The compatibility with RIM devices is expected to help Zeemote get into the North American market, where the BlackBerry is an important device, said Jim Adams, vice president of sales and business development at Zeemote. Thus far, Zeemote has not supported BREW, but the BlackBerry represents a way for the company to work with Verizon Wireless’ devices, for example.
The move is expected to help RIM attract more of the younger consumers it has been trying to go after. Zeemote’s JS1 Controller is a wireless, analog joystick for mobile phones that connects via Bluetooth.
Zeemote now has support from most of the top mobile game publishers and developers. A North American carrier is expected to support the JS1 before the end of the year.
In August, Zeemote and Nokia announced a deal to bring the Zeemote JS1 controller to consumers in Germany. Nokia also will be the first to launch the Zeemote Zeekey application, which enables the Zeemote JS1 Controller to work with N-Gage games and other S60 applications. The Zeekey app will come pre-loaded on featured handsets.
