The FCC is getting a chief technologist. Jon Peha, Ph.D., will serve at chief technologist and as a senior advisor on communications technology in the FCC’s Office of Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis, the U.S. government agency said.
Peha is a professor in the Department of Engineering and Public Policy, as well as in the and Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, at Carnegie Mellon University. Previously he served on the technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Microsoft and SRI International.
Peha received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University. He is a Congressional Fellow of the IEEE and a Diplomacy Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the FCC said.
“Jon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Commission and I am pleased he has agreed to join us as Chief Technologist. I am confident that Dr. Peha’s expertise will be beneficial to the Commission as it moves forward to address numerous complex, technical issues,” FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said.
