AT&T has added a few more responsibilities to Ralph de la Vega’s plate, charging him with all consumer offerings not just wireless offerings.
The company also is re-organizing under four divisions: consumer, business, infrastructure and diversified business. de la Vega will retain his role as CEO of the wireless division, but that will be combined into a larger consumer markets division with responsibility over landline phone, Internet and TV service.
Ronald Spears will lead the new business unit. He formerly held the position of group president focused on sales to large enterprises. John Stankey, who has been group president of telecom operations, will become chief executive of the infrastructure division. Ray Wilkins will remain CEO of the diversified businesses unit.
The revised structure reportedly is aimed at creating better synergies between AT&T’s wireless and landline businesses amid increasing competition from cable companies.
De la Vega led the integration of Cingular into AT&T and planned for AT&T's exclusive Apple iPhone deal. He also served as COO of Cingular Wireless.
