Reports out of Research Park Triangle, N.C., indicate that Sony Ericsson broke the bad news yesterday saying it would be laying off about half of its workforce there.
In July, the company announced that it would lay off 2,000 workers worldwide. This announcement clarifies the numbers at the North American headquarters.
The cuts, which will take effect before the end of the year, will touch all departments including research, development, sales and administration.
The company blamed a slowdown in sales in core markets and the weak economy for the layoffs.
