MobiTV and video encoding and transcoding solutions provider Media Excel are getting together in a strategic partnership to offer advanced video delivery capabilities to service providers.
The companies say the combined solutions will enable service providers to leverage proven best-of-breed technologies and expertise for the development of next-generation high availability, high capacity video services over mobile and broadband networks.
Specifically, they say MobiTV’s Optimized Delivery Server (ODS) for scalable high capacity video delivery, combined with Media Excel’s video encoding and transcoding appliances, will provide a reliable and high quality IP video solution, enabling service providers to offer premium video services to their subscribers over 3G, 4G and broadband networks.
MobiTV recently announced that the number of mobile subscribers’ worldwide that access television using its MobiTV service has surpassed the 4 million mark. The service is currently deployed over more than 15 carrier networks, including Sprint, AT&T, Alltel, Telus, Rogers and Bell Mobility.
Media Excel provides next-generation hardware transcoding appliances that are used by large-scale video service providers such as MobiTV, as well as broadcasters and service operators.
Last week, MobiTV announced its Mobi4BIZ, a service that focuses on financial news and information. It will be offered on the Research In Motion (RIM) Bold device, which RIM expects to be available from AT&T in early October.
