• Touchscreens will be a $5 billion market in 2009, ABI Research said.  Samsung, Motorola and Sony-Ericsson currently lead that market, while Apple is only a niche player despite the popularity of the iPhone, ABI’s analysts found.

Interop Technologies today said its new SMSC-4 can handle 36,000 text messages per second.

Polaris Wireless has a new feature for its Wireless Location Signatures product line designed to work with assisted-GPS systems for the highest possible accuracy. The feature, called the Polaris Wireless Advanced Hybrid Solution, will optimize location where A-GPS systems might be challenged due to dense urban  and indoor use, Polaris said.

Playphone and Tapatap, two major international mobile games publishers, have chosen DeviceAnywhere to help them test and develop their mobile games applications on actual devices, from remote locations around the world. • Mobile network management company Astellia is extending its activities in South America. The company has new but undisclosed operator customers in Chile and Columbia.

• Digital security specialist Gemalto said its UpTeq SIM card technology is part of a new Open Mobile Alliance Smart Card Profile-compliant mobile television consumer trial in Singapore.

The Henley Group, a recruiting firm focusing on telecommunications markets, plans to move its headquarters from Pittsburgh to Tampa.  Henley will acquire The Bayside Group and operate using that name.
